These proposals are a response to the New York City Housing Authority’s request for upgrades to their buildings that would use the FEMA aid to not only maintain their campuses but to add value as well.

The first proposal uses light steel structures added to the building facades as a means to provide shading, privacy, and in certain units balconies. These amenities compensate for the units within NYCHA campuses that are poorly oriented in relationship to the sun. All these proposals also provide surfaces that can be used for advertising, generating significant revenue to the buildings while changing the proportion and visual impact of the buildings on their surroundings.

The second proposal transforms the bland brick elevated mechanical buildings into way finding and information boards for the community. They solve a common problem of NYCHA campuses by providing large, well-lit orientation elements that improve the quality of the open space.
