This triplex apartment is entered on the middle floor which contains the living and dining room along with the kitchen. Private spaces for the two children and the parents are above and below this level. The floors are organized around the central wood volume that contains service elements for each floor, each element (kitchen, entertainment room, and home office) being specifically designed to functional requirements within the light maple panelling of the overall volume.
The stair is designed as a triple height space connecting all floors and encouraging communication between them. It begins as a solid wood stair at the lowest level and transforms into a light steel stair as it goes to the children’s floor. The stair reveals the various conditions of the wood volume. Both private levels are subdivided by custom wood storage elements with operable walls and clerestories to mediate light and spatial relationships. Neutral white built-in sill covers for the climate control systems complete the aesthetic of the private rooms
