The client wanted to maximize the available floor area in the duplex apartment by adding a new space that could double as a work-from-home space and a third bedroom for visiting family and guests.

Given the minimal amount of available daylight through the small interior courtyard, the size and support for the mezzanine was carefully calibrated to maximize both light and area. The corner of the new floor was cable-suspended from the steel beam in the ceiling of the double height space. The thin welded steel railing was minimized to provide maximum sunlight, with reflected light increased through white staining and finishing of the existing floor.
