Everland Homes is a new resort community 15 miles northeast of Lake Okeechobee. The master plan of the property creates distinct environments that align with the various activities on the site – water, sports, and relaxation – allowing the guest to experience a variety of spaces as they spend time at the resort.
The unique form of the homes is derived from environmental concepts that support ideas of communal vacation living. Broad open spaces open up the floor plan and allow passive ventilation for cooling, while light gauge aluminum elements provide proper sun control as needed seasonally. Native vegetation helps collect and filter the rainwater for reuse in the building, while photovoltaics generate the necessary energy for the already reduced electrical needs.
The focus of the master plan is the Resort Center, combining the hotels, the convention center, and community spaces into a type of town center around a dynamic exterior space. This allows the rest of the programs to be distributed in garden-like arrangements, be it the lakefront residences with water access. or the glamping gardens set between the lush wetlands. Vegetation is integrated into all aspects of the planning and will help maintain the water and wetland areas as they exist.
