The “room in a room” concept was developed for a SHOWTIME television series “The Big C”. The design team took inspiration from the show to create a therapeutic space using chroma-therapy and auditory stimulation for the main character Cathy (Laura Linney) who is stricken with cancer. The whimsical nature of the decor attempted to create a dream-like state of being. The new shell consisting of three walls and ceiling is inserted into the bedroom. The shell “floats” concealing the LED’s that allow Cathy to control the moods of her immediate surroundings.
